The Eurovision Grand Prix winners in the last 5 years

2000
For the first time a commercial CD featuring all 24 ESC songs comes out, and the event is broadcast live on the Internet. Additionally, all fans in Asia can now be reached via permanent facilities.
The Olsen Brothers from Denmark were not only flying “On the Wings of Love“, but also riding the wave of success.

2001
Held in front of an audience of 38,000 at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen, the biggest event in Eurovision history is broadcast all around the world.
Tanel Padar, Dave Benton and 2XL from Estonia convinced crowds and jury with their title “Everybody“.

2002
Yet another change of rules: The number of participating countries is raised to 24.
Marie N helped the Eurovision Grand Prix to stay in the Baltic states – it travelled from Estonia to Latvia.

2003
The award now journeys south from Riga to the Golden Horn.
Sertab Erener mixed pop and rap in 2003, seasoning the blend with oriental flavours, and shone for Turkey in the end.

2004
The Eurovision community of 36 participating member countries gathered ‘Under the same sky’ in Istanbul where Ruslana, a rising star from Ukraina dressed in leather and furs, won the contest with her “Wild dancers“!
This year, a brand-new format was devised with the competition split into a semi-final and a final and, for the first time in Eurovision history, a centralised televoting was installed.

2005
The 50th anniversary edition of the Eurovision Song Contest set a new record with 39 participating countries.

The Final of the 50th Eurovision Song Contest was held on Saturday 21 May at the Sports Palace (Palats Sportu) in Kyiv. The Eurovision Semi Final was held on Thursday 19 May. The Eurovision Song Contest was broadcast live in over 40 countries.
For the first time in Eurovision history Greece won the Grand Prix with Helena Paparizou’s song „My Number One“.

2006
And the winner is… Hard Rock Hallelujah
Lordi has won the 51st Eurovision Song Contest, after a gripping competition in front of a capacity crowd in the Olympic Arena, Athens.

With the heavy metal anthem ‘Hard Rock Hallelujah’, Finnish rock band won the contest after an audience televote with a total score of 292 points, 44 ahead of second-placed Dima of Russia on 248 and Hari Mata Hari of Bosnia & Herzegovina in third place with 229. Tornero from Romania was 4th, with 229 points for Mihai Traistariu.

“How weird is this? How cool is this?” said lead singer Mr Lordi. “Think about it, a rock band just won a pop song contest. This is weird, strange, interesting. We won the contest, looking like this. It just goes to show that Europe is not such a bad place.”

  3. Is Eurovision a contest of creation or conscription? it shouldn’t let a rock band to participate at this contest. Ireland, Romania and Russia were the best.

  17. So nice for all the performances. But I’m sorry that a Rock Band is in a Pop festival. Strange ! Maybe Europe needs a little bit of school again. I’m from US and proudly say that we don’t mix things. Therefore, next Eurovision, the winner’ll be DJ Tiesto. Why not???? All the best for you , Europe, but you are the second in the lead….sorry.
