Eurovision 2006: facts and changes
Topic: Entertainment (Apr 27, 2006)
Here is a list of the most important facts and changes in Eurovision 2006:
* Only 37 countries (and not 38 as initially announced) will compete in the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest due to Serbia & Montenegro’s late withdrawal.
* Armenia will participate in the Song Contest for the first time ever.
* Because of Serbia & Montenegro’s withdrawal, Croatia has now qualified for the Final.
* 23 countries will take part in the Semi Final on 18 May, and 24 will participate in the Eurovision 2006 Final on 20 May.
* All 38 initially-announced participating countries will take part in the televoting during the Final.
* To save time in the Final, the voting process will be changed: points 1-7 will be shown immediately on a live scoreboard. The spokespeople will only announce the countries scoring 8, 10 and 12 points.
* Another change will be made to the qualification process from the Semi Final. Only the six highest-scoring artists from this year’s Final are qualified to take part in the 2007 Final. That will mean that, together with France, Germany, Spain and UK (the ‘big 4′), 10 countries will have already qualified for the Eurovision Final.
